We are a generation brought up on promising, bright coloured advertising, and nowhere is this more apparent than footwear commercials of the 1980s and early 1990s. It had got to the point, when the Reebok Pump was elbowing its’ way to popularity against the Nike Air, that their campaigns would openly go against the rival brands product. This almost became the style of cool, brands advertisements going out there and saying their footwear is better. For this reason, Hitop Heaven has given the 1989 Reebok Pump commercial starring Dominique Wilkins the top spot – for its’ simple retro grace, and classic superstar endorsement.
At number 2, none only than MC Hammer doing his bit for British Knight’s footwear, another commercial trying to aim sneaker wearers away from the dominant force Nike.
The next two have made the shortlist, purely for their stupidness, let yous sneaker geek eyes feast on these next 2 retro commercial gems.
And finally, coming fifth in this current top five count down, is an all star show out for Converse Weapon, this campaign reaching our screens during the NBA’s 1986/1987 title.
If you have any suggestions for any sneaker ads that beat any of these into the Top 5 Retro Sneaker Ads, post them below in the comments!
Mint Condition 1988 Art of Puma’s at SheMonster Germany
The Shemonster Vintage Fashion mailing list is an old and dear friend to us at Hitop Heaven, and just take a look why… above you will see the best possible condition and quality of our all time favourite – the 80s icon Puma’s ‘Art of Puma’ – with original Art of Puma box which surprisingly is a very rare treat. These are in a size 12 UK / 13 US. Click on the Shemonster link on the right hand side of this page to join their mailing list and enquire about both price and availability.
Nike Air Transition’s 1989 – Size 10 UK / 11 US
These Nike Air Transitions from 1989 are also in fantastic condition, no original box, but if you like these I’m sure that the original shoe box would not have to be the deal breaker!
Puma XTG’s from 1988 – size 10 UK / 11 US
If the Art of Puma’s above are a little too loud for your liking, these Puma XTG’s from the very same year are in fantastic condition for such a rare sneaker. Usually Hitops of this age tend to flake at the tongue, just the old leather paint peeling after 20 years of life, but these look to have been kept in a time warp!
Shemonster has far more stock available, whether it be Hitops, Low’s, and clothing and accessories. We recommend signing up to the mailing list – as once a month or so instead of the usual Junk mail your inbox gets full of, you will find a treat for your feet!
Contact Hitop Heaven if you have your own eBay or private sale of any Art of Puma’s either second hand or in mint condition – we will be happy to add them to this post.
If you missed out on the Valentine’s Day Pack of these Nike reprods of the 1981 classic Basketball shoe, also available at Size? online are these great Black and White colour scheme pairs. At £59.99 this is a good price for a hitop sneaker which will most definitely sell fast.
Having closed their store over a year or so ago, Shemonster vintage store moved to online mailing lists to get their fine items out there. Every month or so a Photobucket link is sent with clothing and sneakers, many of which you will never be able to find elsewhere. This January is not different, as they reveal four great pairs of 80s Puma hitops.
Puma Formel Hi’s in Red and Black
These Puma Formel Hi’s were few and far between in their own time. The listing states that they are unworn, but like many genuine deadstock models time can take it’s toll on materials, and so the destiny for these Puma’s may well be a display case in store somewhere, however they could also be brought out for special occasions or fashion shoots. The black pair are a size 6 UK / 7US and the red pair are size 4.5 UK / 5.5US.
Puma Boris Becker Winner’s
Like the Formel’s these are not an easy find either. They speak for themselves and look in fantastic condition. Unfortunately do not come with their original box, and are a size 5.5UK / 6.5 US.
1988 Puma XTG’s
These last 2 pairs of hitops available are in a far more ‘wearable’ condition, with their original box. This is Hitopheaven.com’s first experience of Puma XTG’s, but they’re a great 80s classic. These are in a size 10 UK / 11US
Puma Formel Eins Hi’s
The Puma Formel Eins pictured above are also in great condition and with their original box also. Formel Eins was a music television show on German TV from 1983 to 1990, and these Puma’s are the sign of an early collaboration. These are in a size 8.5 UK / 9.5 US, and if you like the look of these but they are not in your size or price – keep you eyes peeled for Adicolor Peter Saville Pack Hitops, as these Puma Formel Eins almost look like the direct inspiration for the 5 or so year old Adicolors.
